The 20th anniversary Legal Wales Conference will take place in Cardiff on Friday 6th October 2023 in at the Hilton Cardiff. The full-day event will be followed by a conference dinner.

The Legal Wales Conference provides a platform for significant contributions to the continuing dialogue on constitutional and legal developments in Wales.

The annual conference dinner will also be hosted in Cardiff at the Hilton hotel. Honoured guests, speakers, sponsors and delegates attend the three-course dinner, with wine and welcome drinks.

The Legal Wales Conference is celebrating its 20th Anniversary and this year’s prestigious programme of speakers, and diverse and timely topics epitomise what the event is known for; unique and significant contributions to the continuing dialogue on constitutional and legal developments in Wales.

Timings

Registration opens at 9am for a 9:30am start. The event closes at 5:30pm with the Conference Dinner to open from 7.15pm for 8pm (dinner timings TBC).

Speakers

This year’s 20th Anniversary Keynote Address speakers are The Hon Mr Justice Francis, former Family Liaison Judge for Wales and Her Honour Judge Joanna Korner CMG KC, British Judge at the International Criminal Court.

The Legal Wales Conference greatly welcomes the inclusion of Rt Hon Dame Sue Carr DBE to its auspicious anniversary programme. Dame Carr DBE is the incoming Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales from 1 October 2023, following the retirement of Lord Burnett of Maldon.

The Foundation has also confirmed the Counsel General for Wales and Minister for the Constitution, Mick Antoniw AS will speak at the event.

The event hosts a range of popular breakout sessions and the programme boasts a wide range of speakers and session chairs. Book now to avoid disappointment!

HH Wendy Joseph KC (author of “Unlawful Killings”) is billed as the Legal Wales Conference Dinner guest speaker and Lady Chief Justice of Northern Ireland (Rt Hon Dame Siobhan Keegan DBE), will provide a vote of thanks on behalf of the guests.

Dinner Time: 7.00pm for 8pm 

Dinner tickets are available to both conference attendees and non-attendees.

The event will begin with a drinks reception followed by a three course meal plus wine, at a cost of £60 per person.

Hamlyn Lecture 2023: Thursday 5 October

The first Hamlyn Trust Lecture for 2023 will be delivered at Cardiff University Law School by Lord Thomas of Cwmgiedd on the topic ‘Laws for a nation and laws for transnational commerce’. The event is free to attend and hosted on 5 October in Cardiff, the evening before the Legal Wales Conference. More information and booking links can be found here.
