Lockton and Legal News Wales are hosting the second annual Risk Conference Wales in Cardiff – a focused one-day event to bring together legal professionals from across the region to explore the key issues shaping practice in Wales, from regulatory priorities and compliance challenges to insurance trends, the impact of AI, and wellbeing in the profession.

The free event, delivered in partnership with Legal News Wales will be hosted at the Law Society Wales office, in Cardiff city centre, from 11am – 4pm.

An update on the evolving regulatory landscape, including the SRA’s plans around separating the COLP and COFA roles. The session will explore what proposed changes could mean in practice, the ethical and operational considerations for firms, and how leaders can begin preparing now to ensure any future transition is as effective and manageable as possible.

AML and economic crime

With regulatory scrutiny and audits continuing, this session will examine the recurring weaknesses being identified within firms, the areas creating greatest exposure and the practical steps legal businesses can take to strengthen their approach to AML and economic crime compliance.

Claims trends: where the risks are emerging

A practical look at the latest claims landscape, including where claims are coming from, the areas of legal practice creating particular concern and what firms can learn from current trends to reduce future exposure.

Professional Indemnity Insurance & managing risk

Exploring the current PII environment and the relationship between effective risk management, claims experience and insurability. The session will consider the issues firms should be thinking about throughout the year – not simply at renewal – and how stronger risk controls can support both resilience and insurance outcomes.

AI, litigants in person & the changing demands on lawyers

An open, guided discussion with delegates examining some of the most immediate challenges being created by AI and changing client behaviours. From clients and litigants in person using generative AI to produce correspondence and legal arguments, to the additional time, administration and pressure this can create for lawyers, the discussion will focus firmly on practical solutions.

We’ll explore how firms and individuals are managing AI-generated material, when and how lawyers can push back, the potential implications for workload and wellbeing, and practical approaches to mitigating risk while continuing to deliver an effective service to clients.
