In our first ‘TSR Legal meets’ interview of 2024, Karen Jones (TSR Legal) speaks to Chris Barber, Director and Family Law specialist at Robertsons Solicitors.

Q: What notable accomplishment did the firm achieve in 2023?

A: In 2023, our firm achieved several notable accomplishments. Firstly, we expanded our physical presence by opening a new office in Newport, a strategic move that enhances our service offering to our clients. We’ve also promoted four new directors and celebrated the qualification of all three of our trainees, reaffirming our commitment to fostering talent from within our firm.

Throughout the year, we grew significantly and brought on several strategic hires, which was really exciting. Robertsons Solicitors successfully launched a new sub brand called Education Legal Advice. We sponsored Porthcawl RFC and also took on the Welsh Three Peaks challenge to support Cancer Research Wales as part of our community initiatives.

One of the standout achievements of the year was the recognition received by our Family Law team at the Wales Legal Awards, where we secured a significant win.

Q: In what ways does your firm distinguish itself from others?

A: At Robertsons we put our clients first, above all. Instead of getting caught up in what other firms are up to, we’re all about understanding our clients’ needs and giving them a level of service they deserve.

Q: What aspects of your job do you find most enjoyable?

A: Being a people person, I enjoy supporting the team at Robertsons and witnessing the positive impact they have on the clients they serve. It’s truly rewarding to see our team’s dedication and hard work translate into meaningful outcomes for those we support. No day is the same in my role as Director at Robertsons.

Q: What guidance would you offer to young individuals aspiring to become lawyers?

A: Working in this field is incredibly rewarding and dynamic with the industry constantly evolving. We prioritise skills such as networking, hard work and a positive attitude when discussing opportunities with junior talent joining our firm.

Q: How is your firm actively fostering an inclusive workplace?

A: We are always listening to our team, welcoming feedback and looking for ways to do better. Our culture encourages everyone to share ideas freely, creating a more inclusive and supportive workplace environment built on trust and collaboration.

Q: What developments or initiatives can we anticipate from your firm in 2024?

A: In 2024, we’re gearing up for an exciting year of change at the firm, with plenty of plans on the horizon. We’re currently looking to hire more people and provide them with the tools and trust they need to deliver better services to our clients. We’re focused on expanding our Mediation services and building upon the successes we experienced in 2023.
