Regional law firm GHP Legal has appointment a new solicitor to assist with its heavily increasing criminal defence and regulatory caseload.
GHP Legal, has appointed Alex Mackenzie to support clients across counties in North-West England and North Wales in all types of offence including juvenile offences.
In 2017, the firm won the only legal aid tender awarded in North Wales to provide Prison law advice and representation in 2017. Emma Simoes, Head of Prison Law, said the contract meant the care and guidance being provided to clients during their criminal proceedings would no longer have to end at the custody stage but could continue throughout their sentence.
On her appointment, Alex said:
“Since qualifying as a Solicitor and working with those accused of crime, I have gained a deep understanding of the feeling of isolation that prisoners often experience, and it is this that drives me to want to safeguard their interests and help them see the light at the end of the tunnel. Joining GHP Legal has enabled me to further pursue my interest in Prison Law work.”
Over the past few years GHP Legal has built a specialist prison law team dedicated to looking after prisoners’ rights and providing comprehensive advice and assistance from conviction through to the end of their sentence. The firm supports clients through offices based in Wrexham, Oswestry and Llangollen and three of its 11 partners are based within its criminal law team.
