Cheshire & North Wales Law Society has appointed Stuart Thomas as its new President for 2026–2027.
Stuart, an Associate Director and Head of Dispute Resolution at Gamlins Law, brings his experience as a litigator, and strong professional connections across North Wales, The Wirral and Liverpool, to the role.
Having studied Law at the University of Birmingham before completing the Legal Practice Course at Nottingham Law School, Stuart began his legal career as a Solicitor’s Agent, conducting hundreds of County Court hearings over a four-year period — experience which helped shape his career in litigation.
He later trained with GHP Legal, qualifying in 2009, and has since built longstanding professional relationships across the region. In his current role at Gamlins Law, Stuart leads the firm’s Dispute Resolution department and is actively involved in supporting and mentoring emerging legal professionals.
Commenting on his appointment, Stuart said:
“This is a great opportunity to promote the profession both in our region and on a wider basis. I hope to forge strong connections with other Law Societies, local education providers and local businesses.
“Supporting and training new and aspiring professionals is something I am passionate about and I believe it is key to the future of the profession.”
Outside of work, Stuart is married with one child and enjoys spending time with his family and dog. He is also a keen supporter of Aston Villa F.C. and an avid follower of football, golf and cricket.
The regional law society has also confirmed that Kelly Miller (NWSSP Legal & Risk) will serve as Vice President for 2026–2027. Kelly is also Vice Chair of Trustees of Hope House & Ty Gobaith Children’s Hospices.
Stuart succeeds Immediate Past President Robert Williams, (Consultant Partner at GHP Legal) who was also Stuart’s training principal during his early legal career.
