  • Disabled people (15 October)
  • Children (29 October)
  • Older people (12 November).

The purpose of these meetings is to get interested parties together to discuss how  the legal framework for equality and human rights in Wales can be clarified and strengthened, and how the Commission can use its unique enforcement powers to clarify the law, highlight priority issues and challenge policies or practices which cause significant disadvantage.

About the Commission

The Equality Act 2006 provides the Commission with specific powers of enforcement, to ensure that equality laws are enforced, and to work towards the elimination of discrimination and harassment.

The Commission has wide ranging powers including the power to investigate an organisation or individual suspected of breaching equality law, and entering into a formal, legally binding agreement with an organisation or individual requiring them to cease discriminatory practices, and make changes that are necessary to prevent future discrimination or non-compliance.

The Commission’s Litigation Powers include legal assistance for claims of discrimination under the Equality Act 2010, issuing Judicial Review proceedings and intervening in legal cases.
